New Delhi – BJP president Amit Shah met Shiv Sena leaders today and requested them to form alliance for next general elections. Shiv Sena has announced that it will contest 2019 parliamentary and assembly elections on its own. It’s learnt that Shiv Sena leaders have refused to budge in front of its partner for 25 years.
Earlier, BJP did not give much importance to Shiv Sena’s threat, but after marginal win in Gujarat assembly elections and debacle in bypolls in Rajasthan, BJP leadership is forced to rethink its strategies about alliance.
Maharashtra is the second largest state in terms of LS polls that sends 48 MPs to the lower house of the parliament. If BJP loses its oldest ally, they will have to fight on two fronts; one Congress-NCP alliance and second Shiv Sena. Today’s meeting between Amit Shah and Shiv Sena leaders was first of its kind, more such meetings are likely to take place in future.
