Water tax increased!

Mumbai – The state government has decided to increase water tax. Earlier tax of 16 rupees was levied on 1000 liters of water; now manufacturers of mineral water, beverages and beer will have to pay 120 per 1000 liters. Water tax for domestic and agriculture purpose has also been increased by 17%. This is the first such increase in water in the state since 2010. New rates will be applied since 1st February, 2018.

Meanwhile, municipalities, municipal corporations and industries that fetch water without meter will have to pay 50% more rate. Whereas, the local governing bodies fetching water without any agreement with Ministry of water resources, will have to pay double tax. Similarly if municipalities divert domestic water to industries, then they will have to levy triple tax.

Planning for water consumption in Municipalities

A Grade Municipalities – 125 liter per head

B Grade Municipalities – 100 liter per head

C Grade Municipalities – 70 liter per head
