68% voting for first phase in Gujarat

Gujarat – First phase of Gujarat elections is over and accrording to information almost 68% voters are expected having cast their votes. The fierce battel between incumbent BJP government of 22 years and resurgent Congress has attracted nationwide attention for last few weeks. Out of 182 seats, voting took place for 89 seats. Navasari witnessed maximum turnout when the voting took place in Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat. Patel community, which is angry with BJP over reservation policy have strong dominance in Kutch and Saurashtra.

Among the prominent candidates, fate of CM Vijay Rupani, Congress leader Shanktisingh Gohil, Paresh Dhanani is sealed in EVM. Voting in remaining 93 constituencies will take place on 14th December and counting will take place on 18th December. Due to use of EVM, results are likely to out before noon.

This election is being considered as a battle of pride for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a litmus test for Rauhl Gandhi. Modi has addressed more than a dozen rallies for the first phase of elections, while Rahul Gandhi has concentrated on the state for last three months. Before that, this election was being considered as a cakewalk for BJP, which has won all 25 LS seats in 2014 general elections. However soon to Congress president’s continuous efforts have made BJP to take note of it and use its full force for election, which has made this election interesting like never before.
